Welcome to the Fuel Fund of Maryland. Below you can review who qualifies and how to apply for a potential grant.

The Fuel Fund of Maryland's (FFM) role in the utility assistance process is to determine the potential FFM financial grant for which the applicant may be eligible for (as described with the proceses and procedures on this page); not to determine BGE balance(s), OHEP* eligibility and/or OHEP* financial assistance.   

While a financial grant from the Fuel Fund may be awarded to an applicant. please be aware that the applicant will be asked to pay a portion of the BGE bill as they are the "owner" of the utility bill.   

*OHEP = a state agency/benefits program which administers the state's LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program), known as the Maryland Energy Assistance Program (MEAP).

Fuel Fund of Maryland's utility crisis intervention programs are structured to assist a BGE household who:

  • CURRENTLY HAS NO POWER IN THE HOME OR
  • HAS RECEIVED AN IMPENDING TURNOFF NOTICE

WHAT DO I DO?  BGE HAS TURNED OFF THE POWER AT MY HOME. 

  • Submit an online application by clicking the APPLY button below for review by the Fuel Fund.
  • FFM reviews your BGE account in “real time”. Please do not submit false or inaccurate information.
  • Applications are only accepted: Monday, Wednesday & Friday online between 9am – 1pm.
  • Allow up to 5 business days for processing and response by Staff.
  • Carefully read all instructions that are sent to you by email from the Fuel Fund.
    • Please check your regular email, spam and junk email folders as well.
    • If you do not respond as directed or have a delayed response, your help will be delayed.
  • DO NOT submit multiple applications. This action only causes delays.

HELP!  I RECEIVED NOTICE FROM BGE THAT MY POWER WILL BE TURNED OFF. 

  • Submit an online application by clicking the APPLY button below for review by the Fuel Fund.

WHAT DO I DO?  MY BGE BALANCE IS HIGH AND I DON’T HAVE A TURN OFF NOTICE.

  • You DO NOT meet Fuel Fund’s qualifications for a potential grant award.
  • DO NOT apply to the Fuel Fund. Your application will be denied.
  • Contact your local State energy assistance office: 1-800-332-6347.
    • The Fuel Fund is not affiliated with the Office of Home Energy Programs (OHEP); a state agency/benefits program which administers the state's LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program), known as the Maryland Energy Assistance Program (MEAP).
  • Contact United Way Helpline for additional resources by dialing 2-1-1.

  • If you meet FFM qualifications for assistance, Staff will guide you through the process in a kind, caring, professional and transparent manner.
    • Please be prepared to be accountable during the assistance process.  Read and follow all instructions sent to you.
  • Applications for help are at the highest levels in 3+ years. BE PATIENT!

  • Financial grants that the Fuel Fund awards are through the generosity of donors.
  • Fuel Fund of Maryland was founded in 1981.  We are a small, nonprofit organization that receives no funding from the Federal, State, County and/or City level(s).
  • Fuel Fund of Maryland is not a benefits program and not mandated by any entity.
    • As a result, our financial grants assistance model can/may change at any time.
